These two are very special to me and being able to photograph their engagement portraits was even more special. I'm thrilled I was able to help Rozane and Darrian capture this special time in their lives! Planning a wedding is no joke!! Engagement sessions are a great time to actually celebrate the fact that you're getting married and relax, away from all of the wedding planning for a bit!

We decided to have their engagement portraits in Downtown Detroit... and of course, it wound up being super cold this day! But you'd never know it! These two absolutely brought the fire and rocked their session! We totally forgot how chilly it actually was!!! This gorgeous little red dress definitely helped bring the heat to our session. And Rozane made it look incredible!

No matter what happens, your session can be fun and a good time if you let it! Take your engagement session as a chance to just be together as a couple and celebrate how hard you've been working on bringing your big day to life! Congratulations again, Rozane and Darrian!!!

Bright Colorful Detroit Wedding at The Eastern https://www.kcdphotographyllc.com/blog/2019/9/bright-colorful-detroit-wedding-at-the-eastern Beth and Daniel had a gorgeous August wedding in Detroit this year and I am so happy I was able to be there to capture this gorgeous and joyful wedding. The two met while working on immigrant economic development initiatives at a meeting hosted by Beth’s work. While the two were out at an international music dance party with their other team members at the Garden Theater, Beth and Daniel officially met. No surprise, these two talked and danced all night – and the rest was history! Last October, after a camping trip, Daniel snuck off to their favorite coffee shops to set up a romantic proposal. He walked Beth down to the patio of the coffee shop afterwards where he proposed and then performed one of Beth’s favorite songs on the piano. Of course, she said yes!

It wasn’t long before the two began planning their special wedding day in Downtown Detroit. They chose to be married at the Eastern, a warehouse inspired venue downtown. Beth was incredibly detailed and organized while planning, which made their wedding day a dream for all of the vendors working!!! The newlyweds chose to have a first look to start their day together – and their bridal party joined them about 10 minutes later. We spent time walking around Downtown Detroit for portraits – and we even hopped on the People Mover!! The Cadillac Stop was perfect for a few portraits so we had a great time posing there.

Beth and Dan created a very bright, colorful and fun day for their guests. I loved that their bridal party was dressed in a variety of colors and their reception décor was also really colorful. The entire day just screamed “fun”! One of the cool things about their wedding day was the band. The Gabriel Brass Band introduced the bride into the ceremony and escorted them out of the ceremony. We all even had a little dance party in the parking lot! When I reviewed Beth and Dan’s questionnaire before their big day, it was clear they really just wanted their friends and family to have a great evening celebrating. During the reception, I’m not sure I ever saw Beth and Dan off the dance floor!! They picked an upbeat song for their first dance and spent weeks learning the dance in a class together. How sweet is that!?

Beth and Dan, congratulations! Your wedding day was truly so much fun and I had a great time celebrating you both! I wish you so much love and happiness! Your day was amazing and I hope it was everything you dreamed of!

10 Tips - How to Prepare for a Photography Conference! ImagingUSA 2019 in Atlanta, GA https://www.kcdphotographyllc.com/blog/2019/1/10-tips---how-to-prepare-for-a-4-day-conference-imagingusa-2019-in-atlanta-ga This upcoming weekend begins ImagingUSA 2019 Conference.  I am super excited to be attending again this year.  If you become a member of PPA (Professional Photographers of America) your first year conference to ImagingUSA is FREE.  It’s a great way to meet some of the speakers you have been following; along with fellow photographers attendees that you follow or whom have even become friends with from previous conferences or social media groups you share.

So, if you want to go next year for FREE join PPA Today!  Complete the referral form and include my name Katrina Cross-Daniels along with City/State (Clinton Twp, Michigan)  Become a Member Click Here

Last year, I was not able to attend the conference and to my surprise, I was featured on most of the 2018 marketing materials. It was awesome to be larger than life for a few day… (Literally, the poster was large).

Screenshot

Here are some tips!  I discovered to be helpful for first time conference attendee’s and everyone as a reminder.

  1. Cell Phone – Make sure you memory is not full, you will be taking lots of photos during the conference with people you meet, speakers and even screen shots of some of your presenters contact info or discount codes. (BRING AN EXTERNAL PORTABLE CHARGER) There are charging stations at the conference.  However, they may all be in use when your battery is dead.

  1. Pack Light – The time goes by fast; you really do not need to bring your whole wardrobe.  Honestly, leave plenty of room in your luggage to bring back all the marketing materials you will receive from speaker and vendors.  Believe me it will add pounds to your luggage (remember, most airline weight limits are 50 pounds).

  1. Tote bag vs. Purses – Try to limit the amount and size of things to carry around.  You will be collecting many materials, and most vendors will have tote bags for you to carry things around in (it's for marketing so they want everyone to carry their bags). Some are sturdier than others, but who wants to carry 10 bags and a purse.   For your personal items I suggest that you to carry a cross shoulder purse or even a fanny pack (hand free).  FYI, I love my fanny pack.

  1. Taking Notes – You can bring your own notebook, however, you are provided with notepads from the conference.

Screenshot

  1. Water – It's okay to carry maybe one water bottle.  There are water stations at some conference and you will be able to grab a cup or fill your bottle up.  However, keep in mind some conference do not have water stations and water could be expensive at the conference.  (Keep a few bottles in your room just in case you will need them).

  1. Snacks – Don’t forget SNACKS! This will save your life.  The days are long and you will need to pause for a quick snack in between or during presentations, walking the trade-show etc.  (Remember, snacks are expensive at the conference).

  1. Business Cards – You will meet people so “BRING YOUR BUSINESS CARDS”. I know some people do not like or use business cards, but it's a quick way to help you introduce yourself.  Plus, during the trade show, some vendors have drawings with business card.

  1. Medicine – Have your emergency kit ready! Better safe than sorry.

  1. Jacket/Sweater – If you are always cold like me, I would suggest bringing a sweater or light jacket.  Some areas of the conference may be cold.

  1. Download the APP TODAY!  ImagingUSA has a mobile app (go to your app store and download ImagingUSA). It will provide you with the daily schedules, the ability to mark your schedule in My Agenda, keep track of other Attendees, stay updated when vendors have specials promotions, display a map of the venue and so much more.

Screenshot

  1. BONUS! If you are a member of CPS (Canon Professional Services), you can bring any of your Gear up to (3) and they will clean and service it for  FREE during the conference.  Be prepared to drop the gear off for a few hours.  In addition, you can bring a SD Card with any image you want printed and have (1) large print printed on Canon professional paper (be prepared to carry the large print home).

  1. BONUS! There are so many Vendors, if you really want to buy something and do not have the room in your luggage or an item is too large (like a backdrop), some vendors offer shipping to your home.  Also, some allow you to pay and get the discount during the conference and you can complete your order when you get home.

Looking forward to meeting and seeing some of you there.  If not this year, Become a Member Click Here and I will see you next year.

New Year’s Eve BIG BANG SURPRISE!

Inderia Shorter was not only celebrating her 30th Birthday on New Year’s Eve.  She also had some exciting news for all her guests that attended her event.

Mr. and Mrs. Shorter arrived to the party and before the big announcement; they entered the room to Cardi B “Bodax Yellow”.  They proceeded to the dance floor and showed everyone how they get down.

After, the dance, they announced they are expecting their second child and upon midnight they will have a “Gender Reveal”.  How AWESOME.

The Shorter’s have been married three year and eagerly awaits to have their second child. So, upon the ball dropping at midnight they had a mass of gold and black balloons drop from the ceiling with hidden blue or pink balloons to reveal the gender.

ITS A GIRL. ADDISON SHORTER coming soon!

Three years ago, I had the pleasure to also shoot their wedding… Congrats on your new bundle of joy.

COUSINO HIGH SCHOOL BEST FRIEND SESSION BFF DOMINIQUE AND LAKISHA https://www.kcdphotographyllc.com/blog/2018/1/cousino-high-school-best-friend-session-bff-dominique-and-lakisha COUSINO HIGH SCHOOL SENIOrs:  “BFF'” BEST FRIEND Forever SESSION | DOMINIQUE & LAKISHA

November 22, 2017

Detroit Senior Photographer

Dominique and Lakisha met three years ago at Cousino High School in Warren, MI, and the two have been inseparable since.

I was at the nail salon when the two of them walked in with their Class of 2018 shirts on, getting ready for Homecoming. I gave them my card and a few weeks later they contacted me to schedule their 'BFF' photoshoot. They decided to have the session in Downtown Detroit at The Belt in the Z-Lot.

Despite the wintery conditions, the duo arrived for their session and stuck it out to the end. It was so cold during the shoot that they kept their jackets on right up until it was time to take the next shot.

The connection between Dominique and Lakisha was so fun to watch. Hope you enjoy some of the images from their session!

KAMRYN'S SENIOR SESSION ~ "IN THE MIDST OF THE STORM~ DETROIT SENIOR PHOTOGRAPHER https://www.kcdphotographyllc.com/blog/2017/5/kamryns-senior-session-in-the-midst-of-the-storm-detroit-senior-photographer April 2017

Today's senior session didn't come together as Kamryn had planned it out...Kamryn, was not only scared, but disappointed as well.  The weather was not on her side, and it had rained so hard and didn't let up.  Early, that morning she wanted to cancel her session due to the weather.  However, I convinced her not to cancel, because she had already her makeup appointment, and silently, I was hoping the rain would stop.

metro detroit senior photographer, detroit seniors, senior pictures and portraits, best Detroit photographer, kamryn senior session - Detroit riverwalk,

Unfortunately, the rain didn't stop and we had to go with plan B.  We went to a local hotel and asked for permission to use their lobby in order to create her portraits.  Since, Kamryn was so worried about the humidity and her hair, we made the best of our time together inside the lobby of the hotel.

Towards, the end of her session, I suggested let's check one more time to see if the rain had stopped.  And, to our surprise it did!  In the distance, we saw nothing but fog, and a perfect sky!  Knowing the weather conditions could change at any moment, we literally grabbed the gear, all of our personal items and ran for the door!

WOW, and that’s when he magic happened!  There is was, a perfect mixture of sky, fog, and not a soul in sight – and Kamryn was beautiful!  Now, Kamryn was so happy she was able to get the outdoor photos she really wanted.  We knew it wasn’t going to last long, and took advantage of every moment.

metro detroit senior photographer, detroit seniors, senior pictures and portraits, best Detroit photographer, kamryn senior session - Detroit riverwalk,

Suddenly, in the Midst of the Storm, the fog came upon us and our beautiful sky changed.  It was like we were in the eye of a tornado as the wind and fog encompassed us! Then, shortly afterwards, the fog was gone and passed us, we could now finally see the skyline and the beautiful scenery that’d been hidden by the fog.  Yes, and all the worrying she’d done about her hair…well look at the pics below. lol

In the end, we were able to capture such beautiful images.  I think the message is pretty clear -, “Never doubt the outcome even in the midst of the storm”.

Kamryn is a High School senior at University High School Academy and will be attending Clark Atlanta University in the fall...

HUNTER'S SENIOR SESSION ~ METRO DETROIT PHOTOGRAPHER https://www.kcdphotographyllc.com/blog/2017/4/hunter-senior-session-metro-detroit-detroit April 8, 2017

I had so much fun photographing Hunter's senior session in Downtown Detroit!  He was very brave the day of his session.  Here in Detroit, Michigan we can have at least three season's in one day.  This day was no different and during the time of his session temperature had dropped drastically and it was very windy.

metro detroit senior photographer, detoit seniors, senior pictures and portraits, best Detroit photographer, hunter senior session - 4 socks

"Hunter’s session was held Downtown Detroit, right off the Riverwalk and Detroit River.”  Because of the dramatic weather change, I wanted to make sure Hunter was comfortable and okay with continuing the session.

He was so much different from the young ladies senior sessions, and despite the dreary weather, insisted we continue the session and get all of his desired images.  Our young ladies would have left this area quickly. “lol”

I want each senior to incorporate something unique to their session. (Hunter loves his colorful and stylish sock collection). For Hunter’s session, he wanted to make sure we highlighted his amazing sock collection.  And as you can see, his sock game was definitely on point! Hunter really did a great job and he loves the images that were taken.

I also, enjoyed this session he knocked it out without any complaints.  I can't wait for Hunter to receive all his images purchased.

My name is Katrina and I'm a senior portrait and wedding photographer at KCD Photography, that currently services the metro Detroit, Michigan area.  If you would like to book a session, or get in touch click the link  http://www.kcdphotographyllc.com/contact  I look forward to meeting and getting to know you so I can "See the Vision: Capture the Moment".
